Parthenope - Great women, great stories
Parthenope is an interactive digital platform dedicated to the female figures who have marked the cultural and artistic history of the city of Naples. From the myth of the founding siren to the protagonists of thought, art, science and social life, the project aims to promote female heritage through inclusive, accessible and stereotype-free storytelling. The goal is to give a voice to the women who have contributed to building the identity of Naples, restoring their visibility through thematic itineraries, multilingual content, podcasts, animations and high-definition videos. The platform offers an immersive journey through history, memory and innovation, with a particular focus on accessibility: advanced digital tools, artificial intelligence, personalised itineraries and content for children make the experience accessible to everyone, including users with sensory, cognitive or physical disabilities. The digital environment allows for the three-dimensional reconstruction of historical moments, the use of original audiovisual materials and the integrated consultation of sources, documents and narratives, creating a living and participatory archive of Neapolitan women's history.
The city
Naples is a layered, lively, contradictory city, where myth and reality have been intertwined for centuries. Among its streets, alleys, squares and palaces, a deep and richly nuanced culture has formed, often recounted only from a male perspective. But Naples is also a city of women: muses, intellectuals, revolutionaries, queens and artists who have written its history, often in silence, but with indelible force.
The women of Naples
The protagonists of this narrative are women who fought, created, taught and transformed. Some are well known, others forgotten, but all have left their mark. From ancient myths to modern figures, the platform gives voice to those who have built – through thought, art and courage – the cultural identity of Naples in every era.
The places
Every woman is connected to a place, and every place tells a story. From the Royal Palace to the Rione Sanità district, from theatres to public housing, the women of Naples have lived, acted and left their mark on the urban fabric. Through an interactive map and dedicated content, the platform connects women's biographies to physical spaces in the city, creating a unique and immersive historical-geographical journey.
