"Naples: the city, the women"

"Naples: the city, women" is a video podcast series dedicated to Neapolitan women who have played a significant role in the social history of the city. The project is promoted by the CUG - Single Guarantee Committee for equal opportunities, the enhancement of the well-being of those who work and against discrimination of the University of Naples Federico II. Conceived and curated by Francesca Galgano and Francesca Marone of the Federico II University, together with Vittoria Fiorelli of the Suor Orsola Benincasa University, the project uses short video contents in which the verbal story integrates with images of the city, creating a continuous dialogue between narration and physical places. The project currently consists of 21 episodes, a mosaic of clips that narrates the most significant places in Naples through the stories of its female protagonists. The project was born from the need to make young people aware of the fundamental role that women have had in city life, valorising contributions that are often forgotten, omitted or neglected in traditional historical narration. "Naples, the city, women" is inspired by the concept expressed by Italo Calvino in the "Invisible Cities", highlighting how the history of women, despite being little present in the city's odonomastics, re-emerges in the monuments, hospitals, monasteries and universities that they have founded with often cutting-edge projects that are still operational today.
